'Hotel Sanur Beach Now Sweeter Than Ever'
Sanur
– Bali, April 2006… During the months of May and June 2006, Hotel
Sanur Beach plans to introduce guests’ to the delicious array of
traditional cakes available in Bali with a special afternoon tea
promotion.
A choice of tea or coffee
along with a selection of unique Balinese sweet treats will be served
between 2.00 – 4.00pm daily at the food and beverage outlets of Tirta
Poolside Restaurant, Basilico or the Bamboo Bar.
Traditional cakes are
made from ordinary Balinese kitchen ingredients such as rice and coconut,
and sweetened with natural palm sugar. Snacking throughout the day is a
typical characteristic amongst the Balinese and different varieties of
cakes are enjoyed especially when villagers gather socially or are
preparing for a religious ceremony. These tasty cakes are commonly sold at
the early morning marketplaces where tourists rarely venture. Therefore
Hotel Sanur Beach (www.sanurbeachhotelbali.com)
is keen to expose these authentic local treats to an audience of
international travellers.
The hotel will serve
favourites such as ‘kue kelepon’ – glutinous rice dumplings stuffed
with palm sugar and topped with grated coconut or ‘bubur injin’ –
black rice porridge with coconut milk. Another popular type of cake is ‘kue
bantal’ - a parcel of sticky rice steamed in a length of coconut palm
leaf.
General Manager of Hotel
Sanur Beach, Mr. Christoph Voegeli comments; “There are some very
interesting types of traditional cakes available in Bali and surprisingly
enough they are high in protein, which is an ideal boost to late afternoon
energy levels. We wanted to create a truly unique Balinese afternoon tea
with original snacks to complete the experience. Our guests’ have the
opportunity to try something different everyday of the week.”
Prices
for afternoon tea and cakes at Hotel Sanur Beach start at a very
reasonable Rp25,000 ++ and outside guests’ are more than welcome to come
and sample an appealing selection of traditional Balinese sweet treats.
